The Kentish town of Herne Bay is home to its very own charming little 72 seat theatre, and the award-winning drama society that own it.
Herne Bay Little Theatre are members of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain, and affiliated with the Kent Drama Association and Canterbury Arts Council. Every year, we aim to produce six full length productions (including a pantomime, of course), and our thriving youth theatre performs an additional two full length productions each year. We also host a calendar of social events for our members and are pleased to welcome touring theatre companies to our stage from time to time.
Our society was first formed back in 1947, performing in various venues, until our 40th year when we opened our new theatre in Bullers Avenue.
In 2007, we celebrated our 60th anniversary as a society and our 20th anniversary in our own theatre. After a good deal of fundraising, we were lucky enough to be awarded a large sum of money by The Big Lottery via Meridian TV's "The People's Millions". This enabled us to bring the building up to a standard expected in the 21st century - easier wheelchair access to the foyer and auditorium, a hearing loop and accessible facilities. We were also able to improve the kitchen facilities and improve the decoration and repair of the building.
Our membership is constantly expanding, and we're always happy to welcome new members to the society, whether you would like to tread the boards yourself, try your hand at directing, get involved in the technical aspects of theatre or join our front of house team, whether you're interested in set painting, costuming, or just love theatre and would like to support a local society - we'd love to hear from you! Check the upcoming performances section for production dates.
Once a month we have a Film Club. Tickets are free to MEMBERS ONLY. For more details on how to become a member please click here. For more details on the Film Club please visit
